Sir Robert Edwards (1925–2013) a physiologist and Patrick Steptoe (1913–1988) a gynaecologist, pioneered IVF (in-vitro fertilisation) a therapy for the treatment of infertility.
In 1978 the world’s first ‘test-tube baby’ was born in Oldham, Lancashire, England.
