Providence Publications approached dtSearch Corp looking for an improved search solution for their Workers’ Comp Executive and Cal-OSHA Reporter websites; they were referred to dtSearch UK, an independent reseller who had their Site Search ONE WordPress Plugin in early beta testing.
Providence Publications has been recognized for journalistic excellence by three of the major trade associations. The Newsletter on Newsletters, the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), and the Specialized Information Publishers Association (SIPA) have recognized Workers’ Comp Executive and Cal-OSHA Reporter for their work in numerous categories including government service, public service, and breaking news.
Both sites use the ‘initial search‘ option that will return the most recent 500 results if the search button is pressed without entering any search terms. The search results show not only the post title but make use of Site Search ONE’s ability to include formatted meta data such as publication date & volume, this gives site visitors a good overview of the sites’ content so that they can make more informed searches.
“The project presented some technical challenges, the custom posts had over 10,000 tags initially, and some of the meta data had invalid characters; a result of being converted from an Ektron CMS which was not UTF-8 encoded. We added support for dark-mode that is a feature of both their sites and updated our premium search widget to fit in a narrower sidebar.” said Thomas Harris CTO.
